In collaboration with French architect Patrick Naggar, and with the highly cultured influence of the client, this project’s mandate was to create a jewel box in which to showcase the intensively composed fragrances of the world’s most highly regarded noses. Having been steeped in the boutique fragrance world for decades and with several European locations already in operation, owner Frederic Malle came to the process with a clear notion of the project’s cultural references and intended atmosphere. The boutique was to have the feel of a Parisian apartment of the 1930’s, with an eclectic curated art collection drawn from Mr.Malle’s private collection, and with inspiration culled from the interiors of Jean-Michel Frank, Victor Grandpierre, and Charles de Beistegui. Located in one of the best residential art deco style buildings of Manhattan, the store features brushed aluminium smelling columns, along side a set of furniture designed by Jules Leleu in the 30’s for Mr. Malle’s family.
